ESTRELLA MORENTE – AMAR EN PAZ (2LP BLACK VINYL)

After some years without physical releases, Calle 54 Records is reissuing its entire catalog in collaboration with Reissued Sounds.

Amar en Paz brings together Estrella Morente and Niño Josele in a project long envisioned by Fernando Trueba: uniting Estrella’s voice and Josele’s guitar with a selection of Brazilian musical gems. Rather than creating a Brazilian album, the intention is to craft a “love letter” to the country’s music. The project, released on Calle 54 Records and distributed by Sony Music, seeks to embrace this repertoire, make it their own, and show once again that music transcends borders and nationalities. Estrella brings powerful emotion to works by major Brazilian composers, while Niño Josele’s flamenco rooted but stylistically open guitar gives these classics a new dimension, carrying them beyond the Tropics and away from clichés. The selection of songs proposed by Trueba spans practically the entire 20th century and has Estrella as its guiding inspiration. Manhã de Carnaval, O Amor em Paz, Dindi, Amargura, Carinhoso, Sem Você… “They are songs I felt were close to her—her style, her voice, her character—even if they seemed to belong to another culture, to a distant, foreign musical universe.”
